First Race Takes Place

November 28th 1895 saw the first American automobile race. A race that lasted over 54 miles running from Chicago’s Jackson Park to Evanston, Illinois.

The winner was Frank Duryea who completed the race in 10 hours.  Frank and his brother Charles were one of the first to make a gas fulled engine for a car in the United States.
