2012 is a big year for Bentley, as it is celebrating an enviable positive increase in car sales worldwide from last year, and the Crewe based über-luxury car company have also just launched the eagerly awaited Bentley Continental GT V8 to the crowds at this months’ Detroit Motor Show in the USA. The Bentley Continental is one of the company’s best selling models and is available as the GT (hard top) or the GTC (convertible, soft top). The Continental has been completely re-designed, whilst keeping the original shape and essence of the model.
This new car uses many lighter, weight-saving materials, which has also given it a much more rigid chassis, so handling and performance have ultimately benefited from this new design concept. The other big revelation is sitting under the bonnet in the form of the all-new 500bhp, twin-turbo V8 engine, as this makes the car feel livelier.
The new V8 engine offers a 40 per cent increase in fuel economy over that of the current 6.0-litre W12 engine option, which will still be available. This new V8 motor is capable of accelerating from 0-60mph in a mere 4.6sec, which is amazing for a luxury car of this size and calibre.
This new V8 should be hitting the streets from this spring and the coupé GT and cabriolet GTC models should appear in time to be enjoyed during the summer later this year.
