Aston Martin, Luxury Cars and Advertising

Hopefully, you’ve kept up with our recent posts about Aston Martin’s attempts to get into the world of viral marketing. If you haven’t, you can catch up on them below, or visit this page on the Aston Martin website and watch all three parts together, as they were meant to be seen. After that, you can wince in recollection every time you drive past an Aston Martin Dealership.

The videos may have been bad, but they do raise some interesting questions about how manufacturers such as Bentley, Porsche, Ferrari and so on are use the internet to promote their cars. Whereas you can see banner adverts all over the place for offerings from more affordable manufacturers like Ford or Vauxhall, you don’t see Porsches chasing each other across the top of a web page in a garish flash advert.

Part of this is obviously because of the way these companies expect to do business. They can use top car shows like Top Gear to get their latest models shown to an interested audience, but past that they rely a lot on the image of their brand and the price of their models to draw in customers.

Product placements in Bond films are all well and good, but there are whole new realms of media that they can exploit with the rise of the internet. Except they haven’t. Apart from Aston Martin’s poor voyage into viral videos, the largest online presence these companies seem to have is their Facebook pages.

Will we see more attempts to create content like this, which furthers their image whilst also drawing more mass attention, or do the companies believe that doing so ruins the image of exclusivity? After all, walking into a Bentley Dealership and getting a glass of champagne when you buy a new car is very cool. Sitting at your computer reading a blog post about the latest Porsche’s performance simply isn’t.

The New 2011 Bentley Continental GT

The new 2011 Bentley Continental GT rolls of the production line soon, though you may find it difficult to tell from the old GT. The Bentley design department haven’t exactly pushed themselves when coming up with the look for the 2011 GT as it is almost identical to the previous model, for footballers and the rich and famous this might not be so much of a problem as they lapped up the old model with its sleek and sexy looks.

Despite the similarities Bentley say it’s a completely new car and there has indeed been a few tweaks and changes to the body work, the biggest changes though occur on the interior. In the cabin you will find an eight-inch touch screen which uses Google maps and dynamic navigation. You will also find a sleeker dashboard and new seats designed to provide more legroom.

For those who want to take a closer look at the new Bentley GT you should head to your Bentley dealer as soon as possible as this magnificent car is well worth your time, in the mean time though you can catch a glimpse of it in this promotional video.

Fancy a Ride in This?

Everybody loves a classic car, and how many times have you driven past a Porsche Dealership and considered stepping inside and just having a look at some of the beautiful models in there? Car magazines and the internet also offer some great images of rare and gorgeous cars so there’s no lack of place to go when you want to fantasize about motors.

Of course, there are rare and classic cars and there are the almost mythical cars. Vehicles of which so few exist that most people will never lay eyes on one. Even images of them aren’t particularly common, outside of grainy photographs taken by mysterious old men who will rave madly in pubs about seeing them before passing out from drink

One of these vehicles is the Bentley State Limousine, a car of which only two were made.

The best chance that most people have to see a Bentley State Limousine in action is by finding out the schedule of Queen Elizabeth and catching a glimpse of it as she travels between appointments. Of course, you’ll also get to see a selection of cars and motorbikes from the Royal Protection Squad if you do this.

The car itself was made by Bentley for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and has a mine-resistant floor, an armoured chassis, including armoured glass, and can be sealed against gas attacks. It also has a crest and pennant that can be illuminated and are normally fitted with the Royal Standard, though these can be changed for special events. When the Queen isn’t using the vehicle, it’s fitted with the standard flying B hood ornament of a Bentley, but this is swapped for St George slaying the dragon when she is on board.

One thing’s for sure, you won’t find this car in a Bentley Dealership.

Two New Bentleys Hit the Market

Bentley fans everywhere will be pleased to hear about the unveiling for two new Bentleys for the Chinese market. Unfortunately these great cars won’t be available in and UK based Bentley Dealers for now.

These new stylish additions have been designed exclusively for the Chinese market with a special emphasis on a sleek new looking 3 tone interior which creates a stunning visual impact. This artistic approach is apparent in details like the seat belts, floor mats and even on the fine stitching on the steering wheel.

Both cars, the Continental GT Design series China and the Continental Flying Spur Speed China have both been unveiled to the Chinese market at the Auto China Motor Show which started on the April 23rd.

You will also find additional luxury provided by Bentley. In the back of the car you will find custom leather cushions for rear passengers which have been embroidered with the Bentley logo on them.

This exclusive release to China may have something to do with the Chinese market being the third most important to Bentley. Since entering the Chinese market in 2002 sales have grown ten fold in just seven years.

Terry Wogan’s Bentley sold at auction

You may have heard one or two whispers about the legendary Radio 2 broadcaster retiring this week. Sir Terry Wogan is set to step down from is early morning breakfast show after 27 years presenting it. The broadcaster has decided to step down from the show whilst also moving away from presenting the Eurovision Song contest.

But it is not only Mr. Wogan himself that has made the news. It was revealed that a pre-owned Bentley was sold at auction, which happened to be owned by Mr Wogan himself.

The car was purchased by a museum in the former Soviet state. At the time of the auction the car was not in possession of Sir Terrance, in fact he had sold the car some years ago. There was a little bit of interest in the bidding for the car.

The new owner of the car can be reassured that the Bentley would have been well looked after by Sir Terry, as he holds the second slowest lap time on a TV race that competes celebrities in reasonably priced cars.

His former motor is a Bentley Eight which was introduced in 1984 in a bid to attract the younger generation of buyers.

Sir Terry will be missed and Chris Evans, who will be replacing him, will have some pretty big shoes to fill. The queen is one avid listener who will miss Sir Terrys banter in the morning along with many of his other devoted followers.

Bentley Donate Bus

A luxuriously restored Red London bus has been given a face lift thanks to Bentley Motors. It seems the Bentley dealership offers much more than luxurious cars.

The bus was donated to St Lukes Hospice and Bentley customised the interior of the bus to an impressive standard.

Bentley have been a long term supporter for the charity, and previous support has seen Bentley renovate some of the charities shops and gardens. St lukes appealed to Bentley with the restoration of this bus and by the look of it Bentley have pulled out all of the stops.

The bus restoration project involved 59 Bentley employees and the finished job is impressive. The team have tried to keep as many original features as possible and combined it with the classic Bentley look and feel.

Every inch of the bus has been well refurbished and has many of the quality finishing touches that you would find in a Bentley motor and much more.

Craftsmen from the Bentley work shop produced bespoke components for the bus have designed the interior in a way that will provide the St Lukes staff with a great base to reach out to the community which will in turn raise public awareness and increase funding.

There are some really nice features on the bus. One such feature is the bus ticket collection box, which Bentley has now changed which accepts donations towards the charity.

Its clear to see that the staff at Bentley have felt really passionate bout this project and it has been a labour of love for many of those involved. The end product is a stunning bus presented in the highest of standard.
